A French garden party brought to Martha's Vineyard by a French couple. They brought so many wonderful traditions (old and some new ones) to the tiny island across the pond that I am so excited to share with you!
Getting ready
The couple chose to get ready at the house where the wedding reception was. They saw each other the morning of the wedding and then got ready separately to be surprised at the church.
The Ceremony
The couple had an intimate ceremony at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Oak Bluffs. They were both escorted in by both their parents (love this!). Another part of their ceremony I loved, which is traditional in France, is that the guests exited first. This allowed the couple a private moment inside and then all the guests were waiting outside the front doors to great them! Their get-away vehicle was a jeep, which is the vehicle of choice for MV.
Couples Portraits
This property was one of my all time favorites because of how diverse it was! There were endless opportunities for photos and the wonderful Morgan Wynne took full advantage of the beautiful property.
Cocktail Hour
We utilized a tree-covered area behind the house for cocktail hour. We like to plan ahead, shade at the end of August is a good thing! Displayed apps and a Cape Cod & Island must have during cocktail hour- an oyster boat- were waiting for the guests when they arrived on the property. Plus, special plates prepared for the couple- I always make sure my couples get fed. Ill even stand bodyguard in front of them during dinner to make sure they have the chance!
Reception
Ive started doing a "room reveal" and I love it. A room reveal is when Im able to bring the couples into the reception room or tent prior to inviting guests in so that they have the chance to see everything come together before guests enter the space. It also gives the couple a moment alone and to breath before the party starts!
We also did a "grand entrance" to the reception. Similar to a "farewell" but with better lighting! Guests lined up the entry to the tent and threw petals as the couple entered the tent! Everyone moved under the tent for dancing, toasts (we even Skyped in a few guests from France!), dinner (a traditional Cape Cod Clambake!) and more dancing- including a silent disco!
Wedding Weekend
The best part of a destination wedding is that you can make it into a full weekend of events! Included in the wedding events- a ocean-side rehearsal dinner complete with a paddle boarding and a farewell brunch before guests hoped on the ferry and headed home after a wonderful wedding weekend.
