What can I say about Kaitlin & Drew other than they were so amazing to be around, so amazing to plan with and so much fun the day of their wedding. Kaitlin and Drew are a wedding planners dream!- Organized and on top of their to do list, yet open to ideas and advice. As we entered the final month of planning I informed Kaitlin (more than once) that we needed to start planning a vow renewal already.. because I just didnt want to let them go! Here are some of my favorite details from their laughter filled day and a few details about their story!
Kaitlin tell us about your story:
"Drew and I met in 2009 and started dating shortly after. After about two years of dating, people started asking about marriage and Drew always said that he had a 10-year plan. Although his original plan was to wait ten years until marriage, Drew decided to surprise me with a ring on December 28, 2016 (after only a short 7 years). If you're waiting for an extravagant romantic story complete with flowers and music, keep waiting. True to me and Drew's personalities, it was a spur of the moment gesture at home while I was trying to clean the house. Drew told me that Yogi (our dog) had one more Christmas present. I, being a stickler for schedules, rolled my eyes and stood by the stairs with cleaning supplies in hand, annoyed that Drew was keeping me from cleaning the bathrooms! When I opened my eyes, Yogi was holding the ring and asked if we could all be a real family."
Tell us about your wedding dress:
"I went shopping for my dress in July 2017 with my mom, Nancy, mother-in-law, Jean, and best friend/bridesmaid, Sarah, at New York Bride & Groom of Raleigh in Garner, NC (https://nybrideofraleigh.com/). I had my ideal dress in my head which was flowy, bohemian and ethereal. After trying on five dresses, including the supposed "dress of my dreams" I chose a completely different fit and flare dress by Stella York (Style #6257). The sample dress fit like a glove and the moscato color was exactly the color I had been looking for. When I looked at myself in the mirror it was the first time I felt like a bride. Even though it was a fit and flare dress, the bottom portion still maintained the flowy, bohemian style that I originally was looking for and the delicate lace pattern was just beautiful."
Why did you pick the venue that you did? Why Hilton Head Island?
"I had been vacationing in Hilton Head with my family since the early 1990s and my parents moved to HHI in 2005. I have always loved the feel and look of the South Carolina Low Country. When Drew and I got engaged and started looking at venues our choices were either someplace in Rochester, NY (where Drew is from), Raleigh, NC (where we live) or HHI. We decided since most of our family needed to travel to attend our wedding, we wanted to choose a place where they would be able to make it a vacation as well. Once we decided on HHI, there was only one place I wanted to go - Honey Horn! Honey Horn, to me, is the ideal location to experience South Carolina Low Country. From the Spanish Moss, to the marsh, to the wildlife it is just so unique and beautiful and the perfect visualization of the Low Country!"
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
"The favorite part of my wedding day was spending time with family and friends. Our relationship has brought so many wonderful people in to our lives and we truly loved sharing every part of our day with them."
Kaitlin and Drew had so much love for each other! When I asked them what they wanted their wedding to be like they just said, "Fun." Well you can certainly see that these two know how to have fun- and they made sure everyone else at their wedding had loads of fun, too!
Literally one of the funniest best man speeches I have ever heard. And Ive heard a lot! I knew Drew's Best Man (also named Drew) was going to be the trouble maker of the crowd and I was right! It was great. His speech even included "interpretive dance."
You can guess how that went by the hysterical laughter of the bride and groom!
Any advice to current couples planning their wedding?
"Be true to yourselves as a couple. There will be plenty of people who tell you what you can and can't and should and shouldn't do for your wedding. This is ultimately your day - make sure when you look back, it is something that makes you happy!"
