Today we are going to take a look back on Jen & Josh's Hilton Head wedding! They celebrated their ONE year anniversary this week!! And because I didnt have a blog during their wedding I just HAD TO share these fabulous images & details from their amazing wedding!
How did you meet?
"Josh and I met back in January 2012. We both lived in Rochester NY at the time (actually a street down from each other) we were both going out with friends to a popular area bar. I noticed how tall he was from one side of the bar and decided to go up to him, and the rest is history. We have been inseparable ever since and in 2014 we moved down to Raleigh, NC to be near the south. We both loved the Carolinas so much!"
Tell us about your engagement story!
"Ever since Josh and I met, we fell in love with Hilton Head. We started going in 2012 and that’s when we knew we wanted to get married there one day. In 2016 We were going on our usual vacation in Hilton Head. My whole family went to dinner and came back to the house to relax and have a drink on the porch. Josh kept asking me to go outside to a walk, but I kept refusing (it was dark and I didn’t want to get bit by an alligator!) Finally josh got me to go inside to get us some wine where he then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, with all of my family watching from the deck! (they all knew) and... of course I said YES!"
Tell us about your wedding dress!
"When I picked out my wedding dress my mom at the time couldn’t make it to NC to be there. It was very important to me that she could be there even if it was over the phone. In NC I went to the shop called NY Bride and Groom in Garner. I went with one of my best friends and of course my mom on face time the whole time to make it special. I knew I wanted lace and something very simple, but wasn’t really sure of anything else. I tried on probably about 6 dresses one of the last dresses I tried on that day made my mom cry. And I instantly knew that was the dress. Even over the phone that Moment was so special to me. The dress is by Allure 9304 and it’s funny because it had a long train which I originally said I didn’t want but ended up loving!"
Why Hilton Head?
"We picked HHI because ever since we started dating we have been vacationing in HHI. From the first time we visited we both instantly fell in love and said one day we wanted to get married there. We loved the look and feel of the island and knew we wanted to bring our family and friends here to show them why we loved it so much! "
What was your favorite part about wedding planning?
" We LOVED our wedding planner, she honestly made the planning part stress free and helped us with every question we had." ( AWEE! I swear I didnt pay her to say that!) "We also really loved adding our own touches and planning the music for the DJ. It was an added touch of our style. "
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
"Our favorite part of our wedding day was our first look and just seeing all of our guests enjoying them selves. Our first look took all the pre wedding jitters away and just calmed me to be able to see josh. It was just such an intimate moment for the two of us.
We also loved just seeing everyone there that traveled and came to support us. Just looking out at the dance floor and seeing that Everyone was having an amazing time and enjoying themselves. It meant so much to us and was so special. "
Would you change anything about your wedding?
We loved every aspect of our wedding. The only thing we would change is we wish it was slightly cooler. Although we had an absolute blast I’m pretty sure it was 95 degrees and we were absolutely sweating after pictures, but we made the best of it and had a blast!
(Jen used the hashtag #9000degreewedding on her anniversary post and I literally laughed out loud.. it was certainly a hot one!)
Do you have any advise for couples just starting the planning process?
Our advice would be to have fun and do it exactly your you want to! Don’t get caught up in how it should be or how it is on social media, Pinterest etc. Do what you and your future spouse want. We didn’t do a wedding party because we wanted the wedding to be more intimate. We had so many people asking why we would choose this since it was not traditional. I was so torn but in the end I’m so happy that we went with what we wanted. The most important thing is that you have fun and don’t worry about the little things or what people think! Just enjoy every second together, because it will go by so fast!
